Debra Canale studied art at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art. While attending the Academy, she joined a group of fellow students, calling themselves Artist on the Verge. They met monthly to support one another in their efforts to promote and sell their art. The group had shows at the World Trade Center in New Orleans, Oschner Clinic, St. Vincent's Guest House and Poydras Home before Hurricane Katrina dispersed the Group. Before Katrina, Debra had also entered the St. Bernard rt Guild's Show, winning second place in the category Under Glass for her charcoal drawing Bus Stop.
After Katrina destroyed Debra's home and community, she and her family relocated to Colorado. Struggling to survive in her new locale, Debra did not paint for five years. Finally establishing roots in Colorado, she returned to painting. Her works have shown in galleries in Manitou Springs, Santa Fe District in Denver and Golden, CO.
