Lindsay Ternes

In My Words:

I’m a telemark skier, backpacker, trail runner, and animal lover. Playing outside is where I’m happiest, and my creativity soars in sunshine. Long before I studied art in the mountains of Aix-en-Provence, France, I fell madly in love with painting in nature. As a mother of two young girls, my joyous return to plein air is heightened by the opportunity to share the value of the arts and the beauty of the outdoors with my growing family. When I hike my easel around the trails near our home in Boulder and beyond, I quickly work to capture the little story in the scenes I discover. I’m lucky to call this stunning location home, and feel compelled to share the light and curves of this amazing place with eyes near and far.

Bio:

Lindsay Jane Ternes is an award-winning artist based in Boulder, Colorado. Born in Billings, Montana and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Lindsay’s passion for art was apparent from a young age and never waned. At the University of Denver she majored in Marketing and Studio Art to equip herself for a future in fine art. While there Lindsay focused on figure painting, later rediscovering her love for landscape painting while studying at The Marchutz School of Fine Arts in Aix-en-Provence. Her time in Southern France greatly influences her scene selection and light interpretation today.

After years away from a serious studio discipline, Lindsay committed herself to becoming a professional artist while raising her young children. She typically works on location, painting “en plein air,” in and around her home in Boulder, Colorado, but you’ll also find her painting in Glacier National Park each summer. Lindsay’s work can be found at Spirits in the Wind Gallery in Golden, Colorado, as well as Frame of Reference Fine Art in Whitefish, Montana.

Our collection for your consideration continues to evolve as our artists find inspiration and create new works. Their inspiration comes from many facets of their experiences and emotions.

Our talented Mitch Caster finds inspiration in Colorado landscapes, animals and people. Mitch has painted the local Native American POW WOW’s that provide the community an opportunity to share their stories, beliefs and beautiful culture. Caster captures an intensity of movement and color with the eye of observation. We are able to find a connection to ourselves and others through the eyes of Mitch’s incredible talent.

Read history. Immersing oneself deeper into the past of a culture creates a level of understanding that makes the experience of enjoying and relating to a painting that much more intense. Recently, I read about the position of a woman in the Cherokee nation. When I read this, I had to remember is a historic account of an observation of the 1700’s. This culture was ever resilient, as they had to relocate west from their ancestral grounds.

“According to tribal history, Cherokee people have existed since time immemorial. Our oral history extends back through the millennia. It’s recorded that our first European contact came in 1540 with Hernando DeSoto’s exploration of the southeastern portion of our continent.” https://cherokee.org/About-The-Nation/History

Women in Cherokee society were equal to men. They could earn war titles and sit on counsels. The Clan’s kinship followed the mother’s side of the family. The children grew up in the Mother’s house and it was the duty of the Uncle on the Mother’s side to teach the children how to hunt, fish and perform certain tribal duties. Women cared for children, cooked, tended the home, weaved, tanned hides and many other tasks for the community. The girls learned by example how to be warriors, healers, tell the oral stories, trade and dance. They became the mothers and wives that were the core of the Cherokee Nation.

Mitch Caster’s gives us the opportunity to peek into his experience at the Pow wow. We can appreciate his genius in the medium, take in the history and fully spend a moment in awe of the subject, history and beauty. One may never tire looking at the masterful use of color, the content and the history. His work is an asset to your home.
