Janice Wright
Janice Wright Originally from Western Canada, Janice Wright now calls Arvada, Colorado her home. A Visual Communications graduate from the Alberta College of Art of Canada, Wright worked as a graphic designer for over fifteen years. A one year residence in Europe provided her the opportunity to see paintings that previously she had only see in art history books. Profoundly moved by the experience, she stopped producing commercial art and began to paint in earnest. Influenced by the dynamic brush strokes of Van Gogh, and the American Expressionists Franz Kline and Robert Motherwell, she works in acrylic. An avid hiker and photographer, she draws upon the landscape around her for subject matter and inspiration. Her work has been exhibited in multiple group and solo shows in Canada and the US and she has won much acclaim for her work. Artist Statement I am inspired by the rhythm that I see in nature. At first glance, elements of nature can seem random or chaotic in their appearance or placement. A forest may contain trees of many shapes and sizes, clumped together in staggered groups. But with closer examination, it becomes apparent that there is nothing random about the shape, size or placement of the trees. Nature is a master planner; all things follow their own unique pattern, coexisting harmoniously with all other elements in the universe. When I paint I strive to paint the way nature does, with a sense of rhythm that is present in every brushstroke. Like a tightrope walker on a wire, I try to balance the elements of shape and color, size and weight, texture and transparency. When I achieve harmony or balance, the individual parts form a synergy which makes the piece feel whole. … [Read More...]

Gregory Mayse
Gregory Mayse Being surrounded by the majestic landscapes, wildlife and western culture of the Rocky Mountains has had a tremendous influence on the life and art of Gregory Mayse. Gregory is the owner of Wolf River Studio in Fort Collins, Colorado. He has always been attracted to realism in art and it is reflected in his painting style. His works are showcased in storytelling pieces that could be about a moment in the day of a cowboy, Native American or mountain man. They can also capture the energy of a wild mustang racing across the landscape. For the past 20 years, he has loved living in northern Colorado. Gregory has applied his skills as a professional photographer, painter, graphic designer, writer, and illustrator to a well-rounded 35 year creative career. For the past several years, Gregory has spent time traveling to photograph cowboys, Native Americans, ranchers, period reenactors and models dressed in 1800's clothing and gear replicating the Old West. He uses these as reference images for his paintings. His works hang in the homes of collectors across the country. They have been juried into national fine art shows and used for covers of publications. Primarily a self-taught artist, some of his inspirations and influences have been in the works of Frederic Remington, Charles Russell, John Seerey-Lester, Howard Terpning, Carl Rungius and Bill Hughes. In recent years Gregory has studied with Dave Santillanes, Heather Coen, Kate Dardine and Jeanne Mackenzie. … [Read More...]

Lindsay Ternes
In My Words: I'm a telemark skier, backpacker, trail runner, and animal lover. Playing outside is where I'm happiest, and my creativity soars in sunshine. Long before I studied art in the mountains of Aix-en-Provence, France, I fell madly in love with painting in nature. As a mother of two young girls, my joyous return to plein air is heightened by the opportunity to share the value of the arts and the beauty of the outdoors with my growing family. When I hike my easel around the trails near our home in Boulder and beyond, I quickly work to capture the little story in the scenes I discover. I'm lucky to call this stunning location home, and feel compelled to share the light and curves of this amazing place with eyes near and far. Bio: Lindsay Jane Ternes is an award-winning artist based in Boulder, Colorado. Born in Billings, Montana and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Lindsay's passion for art was apparent from a young age and never waned. At the University of Denver she majored in Marketing and Studio Art to equip herself for a future in fine art. While there Lindsay focused on figure painting, later rediscovering her love for landscape painting while studying at The Marchutz School of Fine Arts in Aix-en-Provence. Her time in Southern France greatly influences her scene selection and light interpretation today. After years away from a serious studio discipline, Lindsay committed herself to becoming a professional artist while raising her young children. She typically works on location, painting “en plein air,” in and around her home in Boulder, Colorado, but you'll also find her painting in Glacier National Park each summer. Lindsay's work can be found at Spirits in the Wind Gallery in Golden, Colorado, as well as Frame of Reference Fine Art in Whitefish, Montana. … [Read More...]

Our collection for your consideration continues to evolve as our artists find inspiration and create new works. Their inspiration comes from many facets of their experiences and emotions. Our talented Mitch Caster finds inspiration in Colorado landscapes, animals and people. Mitch has painted the local Native American POW WOW's that provide the community an opportunity to share their stories, beliefs and beautiful culture. Caster captures an intensity of movement and color with the eye of observation. We are able to find a connection to ourselves and others through the eyes of Mitch's incredible talent. Read history. Immersing oneself deeper into the past of a culture creates a level of understanding that makes the experience of enjoying and relating to a painting that much more intense. Recently, I read about the position of a woman in the Cherokee nation. When I read this, I had to remember is a historic account of an observation of the 1700's. This culture was ever resilient, as they had to relocate west from their ancestral grounds. "According to tribal history, Cherokee people have existed since time immemorial. Our oral history extends back through the millennia. It’s recorded that our first European contact came in 1540 with Hernando DeSoto’s exploration of the southeastern portion of our continent." https://cherokee.org/About-The-Nation/History Women in Cherokee society were equal to men. They could earn war titles and sit on counsels. The Clan's kinship followed the mother's side of the family. The children grew up in the Mother's house and it was the duty of the Uncle on the Mother's side to teach the children how to hunt, fish and perform certain tribal duties. Women cared for children, cooked, tended the home, weaved, tanned hides and many other tasks for the community. The girls learned by example how to be warriors, healers, tell the oral stories, trade and dance. They became the mothers and wives that were the core of the Cherokee Nation. Mitch Caster's gives us the opportunity to peek into his experience at the Pow wow. We can appreciate his genius in the medium, take in the history and fully spend a moment in awe of the subject, history and beauty. One may never tire looking at the masterful use of color, the content and the history. His work is an asset to your … [Read More...]
